A sweet new NYC office space for us, but…
After hunting around for the past month, we’ve finally found ourselves a pretty sweet new office space in downtown New York, right on the border of SoHo and Little Italy. So in a couple weeks, we’ll be moving out of our closet-of-an-office on the Upper West Side and moving into our new digs. Feels pretty exciting, like we’re all grown up now. Well… entering startup-pubescence at least.
It’s a very industrial-feeling building. Windows on two sides of the space. Sunlight from the east. Wood floors. A kitchen. A couple random old columns. And one of our neighboring businesses is named, “Jedi Temple”. No idea what they do, but sounds awesome. Tons of restaurants and cafes in the area, so that’s great.
Okay, so this is a pretty lame thing to write, but the only downside is… there doesn’t seem to be a Starbucks nearby. Shocking, huh… because literally every other neighborhood in NYC seems to have three Starbucks. On every block. At least.
Admittedly, we have a seriously unhealthy Starbucks habit. We try to support the mom & pop cafes when we can, but Starbucks has just become the de facto staple for us. We pretend not to feel as guilty because most of us are from Seattle. But still, deep down we still feel like sell-outs. The fact that we’d even consider the proximity of Starbucks as a factor in our office search is pretty sad.
So I guess this move is a good thing in more ways than one. We were dropping way too much cash on Starbucks. When it’s the one vendor on your credit card statement that you’ve paid the most to… topping United Airlines even… you know something’s gotta change.
If we can’t find good espresso in Little Italy of all places, we should be shot.

Love your site! Can’t wait for the download thingy to happen.
BTW, can you check out the Jedi Temple and report back to me what it is all about? Sounds neat and interesting.
you should be ashamed of yourselves, looking for a starbucks in little italy! if you can’t find a great cafe in the vicinity, then we’ll just have to go commando and buy an espresso machine for the office…
I’m not sure what “going commando” means where you come from, hanners, but I think the general usage has very different connotations.
Though maybe it’s not too far fetched to imagine Jason playing the role of our “commando” barista in the office…
Congrats on the new office! Are you going to have a housewarming?
I have to put in a plug here for our good buddy (and my future roommate) Dmitry the Russian, who found our new office for us when he and I were looking for apartments in Manhattan. Dmitry: we owe you a round, my friend. (He’s running the Chicago Marathon right now, btw, so he’ll probably not get this shout-out for a little while. Good lucky buddy!) Incidentally, he and I are also moving to Little Italy, so if anyone out there has good recommendations for hole-in-the-wall cafes or restaurants or other illicits we may not otherwise find, please send them along.
The Jedi Temple sounds like what was just in this month’s Wired magazine: http://www.wired.com/gaming/virtualworlds/magazine/15-10/ps_jedi
Excellent! At least you guys don’t have to worry about security since the Jedi Temple is next door. Okay…bad joke. Alright, back to finishing my Starbucks Latte.
k go get yourselves some espressos and work on the downloads!
Starbucks? Oh the shame!
Anyway (fave word), I’ve only just popped in from Blighty to say I really love this site. I signed up for the yearly package within minutes, I was that impressed.
Like Marw said, I think this will be FAB when the download bit is enabled.
I can see this becoming a huge success! Great work guys.
