What the heck have we been up to?

Well… launching to the public has been no small feat. Seriously, sometimes we wonder… what the hell were we thinking? I mean, we knew way back when that figuring out how to produce just one of these Aniomto Videos would be a serious pain in the arse. Why did we ever think we could launch this… to the world? I don’t know. Admittedly, maybe we just thought “the World” consisted of a few people in New York and San Francisco. And maybe a few friends in Seattle.

But obviously, we’ve quickly learned the world is actually pretty damn big and intimidating. You can only imagine how much hair gets torn out of our heads when we see people from Japan, France, Italy, Bazil, Canda, and Germany start trying to produce their Animoto Videos all at the same time. I’m actually not even sure where a lot of these countries are that are using this. Bahrain, Mauritius, Talgo, Malta, Dijibouti?

The business guys here love this. “More countries! Faster growth! More users! Yes!” The tech guys, on the other hand, feel like they’re growing about 1-2 ulcers a day and are popping anxiety pills by the hour to cope. [* Btw kids, as a general guideline please don't use us role models. We live destructive lives. *]

Anyway, it’s been six weeks since our big public release and it’s been a crazy roller coaster of a ride. It’s been a lot of work trying to keep everything running smoothly, working out all the obscure bugs, and doing our best to keep everyone happy. When we get covered on TV or some big blogger writes about us, it’s really exciting yeah… for about two seconds. Then we realized that we’ve just been totally slammed and to be honest, it can all get pretty stressful. It also doesn’t help that when one country is going to sleep, another one is just getting going.

The silver lining is… it seems like people really like what we’re doing. We get some very nice emails. Not all of them we can translate, but we like to pretend they’re rave reviews and so it makes most of the ulcers worth it.

We know you haven’t seen much change yet on the Animoto site. And many of you are thinking, “What the heck have they been up to?!” In short, we’ve been making Animoto stable enough for worldwide use and making sure all our Dijiboutian friends are having just as great of an Animoto experience as our friends in New York.

That said, we’ve made time recently to develop some really cool new features for you all. Should be ready for public consumption soon, so be on the look out. Lots of stuff we’re excited about in the works. Thanks for the support.

That’d be great, even before they’re live, that you let us have a glance at what this is.

  2. Deep breaths and less caffeine, boys….

  3. What were you thinking launching animoto to the world? really, I don’t know, but I’m thankful for what it was :-) I think you are fantastic, go on and take it easy… non preoccuparti, as we say in Italy. Ciao!

  4. i think what you are doing is so so cool!

    greetings from Singapore!
(errr do you know where Singapore is? haha…)

  5. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Any idea on when downloading will be available?

  6. Hmmm… I thought I’d let you know where Malta is: It’s a miniscule rock in the Mediterranean Sea, just south of Sicily. Now, if you don’t know where the Mediterranean Sea (or Sicily!) is, go google it LOL!
I’ve been playing a bit with Animoto, and I’m waiting to have more free time on my hands to try out a full-length video. But even the short ones are awesome. You’ve had a really great idea with this venture! :)
