From The Guys at Animoto

The guys here at Animoto want to say a huge congratulations to Executive Producer Tom Yellin and his production company, The Documentary Group, for receiving an Oscar nomination for best documentary for “Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience”.

Tom is not only one of the most accomplished and recognized producers in the business, but he also happens to be an adviser and board member of Animoto. And we are super proud and honored to have Tom behind us.

Winning awards is nothing new to Tom. He recently won a Peabody for his work, “Out of Control: AIDS in Black America”. Our team absolutely loves meeting over at Tom’s office as it seems like nearly every desk and bookshelf has an Emmy award sitting on it. This Academy Award nomination is just another testament to how influential, powerful, and captivating his works are.

On a personal note, we just want to express how much of a inspiring voice Tom has been to Animoto. When we were getting started a couple years ago we faced numerous skeptics who either didn’t believe we could pull off this technology or who just didn’t “get” the importance of what we were trying to do. Tom, however, immediately understood our vision - that of offering industry professional video and story-telling capabilities to the masses - from day one. He had confidence in us and our idea before we even wrote our first line of code.

As one of the most accomplished executive producers of documentaries, Tom continues to push us to excellence in our unique style of short-form documentary. We still have much to learn from Tom about the power of imagery, music and motion picture before we start to scratch the surface of his artistic vision for Animoto but that excites us and keeps the fire burning in our bellies. In other words, you haven’t seen anything yet!
